St Petersburg

St Petersburg The Sunshine City

This beautiful and growing city is located on a peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico and Tampa Bay. Many people call it St Pete, and it is near St Pete Beach, Florida.

Since the area enjoys nearly a year round climate of bright sunshine its nickname is The Sunshine City. However, the city is named after the city in Russia by the same name. It is the home of three major professional sporting activities and games such as hockey, baseball and football.

A Brief History:

The area was founded after incorporating train terminals in the area in February of 1892. In 1897 electric was soon available. Its first wholesale fish business began in 1899 and in 1904 the city welcomed its first trolley service.

Dredging to create a deeper channel between 1906 and 1908 helped to improve the port facilities. This caused an influx of a new population and the city has been growing since, with the help of the first airplane service in 1914. In 1924, the Gandy Bridge was built to connect this area with the Tampa Bay area by way of the causeway.

Entertainment and Recreation:

Entertainment and recreations are never limited while living in or visiting the area. Whether you want to enjoy various sporting games and outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, swimming, walking along the lovely seashores or piers and so much more, you will find various interesting and exciting attractions to keep you busy.

You may also want to visit the aquariums and various walking tours throughout the city and county.

However, there is so much to do while here to have fun whether you enjoy playing during the day or enjoying the nightlife of the city and surrounding areas. For instance, you may visit any number of different theme museums and natural parks. If you are visiting in April you can enjoy the Festival of States Parade.

While visiting or staying in the St Petersburg area and you want to get out on the greens, be sure to go by the Country Club, Cypress Links at Mangrove Bay, Twin Brooks, the Isla Del Sol Golf Yacht & Country Club, the Pasadena Yacht & Country Club and the Vinoy Club.

Accommodations:

Since the area is so large and surrounded by many other larger and impressive cities in the state, accommodations are available. Whether you prefer staying at motels, hotels, resorts, inns, bungalows or mom and pop bed and breakfast locations there are many from which you can choose.

You can find just about anything that is suitable for you and your particular needs while vacationing in the area. However, you should always take the time to make any reservations before you leave home to ensure your lodgings and accommodations.

St Petersburg is one of the best loved cities in the United States for tourist and retirees. Come along to the Sunshine City and enjoy your self in all you do.
