Gulf Breeze

Gulf Breeze...

The State of Florida shares a deep history with Spain, England and the Native Americans, and this town is no exception.

Located on the Fairpoint Peninsula and a suburb of Pensacola, the folk here offer you warm hospitality while you may partake of the many activities in the area.

Earlier settlements also echo from the past in the form of shell mounds that indicate the existence of seafood eating Native Americans dating back thousands of years.

The Spanish arrived at the end of the 17th century and would later turn over ownership of Florida to Britain nearly 100 years later. The English originally named Gulf Breeze Towne Point.

It took almost two hundred more years for bridges to be built across the water so that residents would have access to the Pensacola and St. Augustine areas. In 1936 Towne Point housed the Gulf Breeze Cottages and Store, home of the first post office in the area and namesake of the town.

The town is restricted in size due to the overabundance of parkland while being surrounded by major bodies of water. The Naval Live Oaks Reservation itself takes up the eastern end of the island community and is home to the first area in America dedicated to growing trees strictly for the naval fleet.

Shoreline Park offers the visitor over 100 acres of land to enjoy as well as a sports complex that provides a multitude of games that you can while away the day playing.

The National Seashore surrounding the town offers the outdoor lovers a chance to go deep sea fishing, boating, surfing, beachcombing and swimming. You can receive lessons for sailing and kayaking as well. Don't worry about fishing licenses if you fish from the pier, it is only when you're on ship out in the seas that you require one.

The locals include artists, musicians and performers that will put on a good show or two. There are several museums and galleries in town or nearby as well as festivals throughout the year.

Some of the museums that you may find for yourself or your family include the Pensacola Museum of Art, Pensacola Historical Museum and the Museum of Commerce.

There are several yacht clubs and marinas surrounding the waters that include the Santa Rosa Yacht Club and the Holiday Harbor Marina. Performances can be seen at the Saenger Theatre in Pensacola as well as the Pensacola Opera Company.

When you bring the kids along you shouldn't miss such stops as Fast Eddies Fun Center, Bonifay Water Sports and Speedy Johns (Pensacola Beach), Space Walk of Pensacola or Breeze Cinemas. There are several other gaming and/or fun centers within fifteen miles of Gulf Breeze as well as other movie theatres.

The adults in the crowd who love to golf will not be wanting for more. There is an abundance of golf course in Gulf Breeze and within a 100-mile radius there are forty courses.

Some of these include Tiger Point Gulf and Country Club, Pensacola Country Club (a private club), Carriage Hills Golf Club and The Moors Golf and Lodging. These are all prime courses that can accommodate the beginner through the professional.

No matter what your agenda is, business or pleasure, the area has much to offer the traveler. Try a bed and breakfast and a laid back stay or pick a hotel and go see the sights and play some games.

This town with its small town feel will appeal to you no matter what...
