Daytona Beach
A Guide to Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach is one of the world's famous beaches. In essence, the area is devoted to seasonal activities for both the families and the younger crowd alike. This area is one of the few that actually caters to all ages and likes.

A Brief History
Within the fifteenth and sixteenth century, Florida primarily consisted of Native American tribes. More specifically, the Timucuan Indians made up a large portion of the Native Americans in the area. With a diet consisting primarily of seafood, they built most of their villages near the sea in order to remain near their food supply.
Upon the arrival of the Europeans, decimation over took the Native American tribe from a combination of war and disease. By the 1700’s, only 1,000 Indians are thought to have remained as a result. During the 1700s and 1800s, both the Spanish and British maintained various plantations throughout Florida. The United States acquired ownership of Florida in 1821 from Spanish rule.
The founding of the world famous beach occurred in 1870. Six years later, the famous city became incorporated. The city became one of the state's number one destinations, following the arrival of St. Johns and the Halifax River Railway ten years later.
In 1936, racing became a part of the area's history with the introduction of the Daytona Beach Road Course. The course had both beach and road section and acted as the city's main course for many decades, until the introduction of the Daytona International Speedway in 1959 and is when the first Daytona 500 occurred.
