Amelia River Golf Club
4477 Buccaneer Trl, Fernandina Beach, Florida 32034
The Amelia River Golf Club, (formerly known as Royal Amelia), is a public course that offers you the course conditions and service of a private country club.
Designed by Tom Jackson Amelia River Golf Club is truly 18 holes of championship golf. Crafted through towering live oaks, sabal palms and wax myrtles, this course offers you a lot of risk and reward shots.
This par 72 track plays 6,823 from the back tees and offers a course rating of 72.8 and a slope 137, it is always in pristine shape with well-manicured rolling fairways, smooth bunkers and greens that challenge all skill levels from the pros to the beginners.
Amelia River is a challenging, 18-hole layout where ball control and accuracy are keys to a great game. The first hole follows along the border of the Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport, as do 5 and 13.
The fairways on these three holes are wide and open giving the golfer a sense of a traditional Scottish links course. Enjoy these holes while you can because the rest contain individual and groups of trees that, while adding beauty to the course, require cautious ball placement.
The 6th hole is a good example of the course’s challenges. The landing area off the tee is very wide. However, the uphill fairway requires a blind shot. At the top of this hill, a group of trees on the left calls for a high and long shot to reach the green. To add to the challenge there are four bunkers along the front and left of the green.
Large greens and rolling fairways are a trademark of Amelia River. The par five 13th hole is remarkable for its beauty.
The par four 14th hole presents the more skilled golfer with a tantalizing risk-reward proposition; water is in play all the way from the tee box to the green requiring either a long shot to the green or a conservative shot to the right on the open fairway and then there are three bunkers protecting the green.
The signature 17th hole is a par three surrounded by water demanding an accurate shot to the island green. The final hole ends at the edge of the Amelia River and its expansive tidal marsh.
